Safeguarding & Protecting Children

These workshops & courses aim to increase awareness of safeguarding and protecting children, helping coaches/volunteers/welfare officers to recognise signs of abuse and poor practice, and deal sensitively and effectively with issues that arise. It also prompts a review of coaching practice to ensure that sport provides a positive and enriching experience for all!

Clubs and centres should endeavour to achieve good practice and ensure instructors, coaches and volunteers are appropriately trained. Please see below for opportunities in your region:

‘Safe & Fun’ Safeguarding Course

‘Safe & Fun’ coming soon…the RYA’s new online Safeguarding course.

This new course is due to be launched in late January/early February and is suitable for anyone working with children and vulnerable adults in an RYA environment. This includes those volunteering or working at recognised training centres and affiliated clubs.It provides a basic level of knowledge and awareness, put in the context of realistic scenarios that anyone could encounter at their club or centre.

From April 2015 onwards it will be a requirement for all newly qualifying Level 2 Racing Coaches, Dinghy and Windsurfing Instructors and Senior Instructors to complete prior to their instructor/coach training course. For more Information

 

Sport Coach UKSportsCoach UK Safeguarding and Protecting Children

The NSPCC SportsCoach UK Safeguarding and Protecting Children Workshop is designed for all for staff and volunteers working with children and young people in sport.

The course is ideal for all instructors and coaches working with juniors and youths at our sailing and windsurfing clubs. Course duration is three hours.

NSPCC Time to Listen- Club Welfare Officerscpsu

This course is designed for Club/ Centre Welfare Officers and their senior coaches. This is a 4 hour workshop.  All participants need to have completed a Safeguarding and Protecting Children workshop (was Good Practice and Child Protection) prior to attending “A Time to Listen” Club Welfare Officer Training.
